Laura Linney, best known for her strong but weak characters, is among of the most well-known American actors of today. Her father was an acclaimed playwright, but Linney was raised as an all-only child by her single-mother and nurse. During the summers when she was with her father Linney discovered a love for theater. She eventually studied acting first at Brown University then at Juilliard School. Within a mere two years after graduation the actress began her Broadway career. In the following year, she made her first appearance in film and television. She has appeared in innumerable film, TV and stage shows since. Her nominations include three Oscar Awards, five Tony Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and received several awards during her time on the stage. In spite of her many nominations, she has a passion for theatre and has appeared on stage and screen.
